Sample Reflection

After watching the video together, discuss the devotional content, which is broken into four parts:

Bible verse:

“Accept one another then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.” Romans 15:7

Devotion time:

Being “new” to a community, whether it’s school, church, work, or a new neighborhood can be lonely and overwhelming. It can make such a difference to meet a friendly, welcoming person. The Advent season isn’t the only time to think about welcoming others, but it’s a good place to start. Think about ways you can welcome people in your community during this season. Maybe you could invite someone new over to play or eat dinner with your family. Maybe you could invite someone who doesn’t usually go to church to come with you on Christmas. No matter what you decide to do, remember that we accept others because Christ first accepted us. Accepting others is wonderful way to bring praise to God!

Sharing time:

When have you been the “new person”? How did it feel?
How can you get to know someone new or someone who is different from you?
Why does it feel so good to be accepted by others?

Prayer time:

Dear God, thank you for accepting us, just as we are. Help us to welcome and accept people around us. Amen.
